She was born May 13, 1919, in Glidden, WI, to Leo and Mabel (Dumel) Young. Ruth married Frank Murphy on June 4, 1949, at St. Joseph's Church in Oconto. She was a member of St. Theresa's Catholic Church in Eagle, the Eagle American Legion Auxiliary, Kettle Moraine Golf League and various card groups.
Ruth worked at Pitrof's Candy Store for many years and also sold her homemade Ruth's Confectionary out of her home during the holiday season. Ruth enjoyed playing cards and loved the game of golf, winning four ladies league championships at the Oconto Golf Club. She also gave golf lessons to kids, teaching them how to hold a golf club and their temper in junior league golf for many years. Ruth was a Packer fan and enjoyed watching sports on TV. She was a Cub Scout den mother and felt the best years of her life were those spent raising her children.
Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Frank, in 1991. She is survived by four children, Patrick Murphy and fiancée Margie Leigh of Oconto, Terrence (Katie) Murphy of Waterford, WI, Colleen (Siegfried) Baye of New Berlin, WI and Mary Ellen (Gerard) Marifke of Elkhorn, WI; nine grandchildren Kelly, Casey, Erin, Kelley, Riley, Annie, Tyler, Shane and Derek; one sister, Esther (Clyde) Krueger of Waupaca; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Visitation was held Monday, November 19, 2001, after 4 p.m. at Mealy's Funeral Home in Eagle. A mass of Christian burial was held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, November 20, at St. Theresa Catholic Church in Eagle. Father Michael Krejci officiated with burial at St. Theresa Cemetery in Eagle.
