Raymond William BURKHALTER

Raymond William BURKHALTER, 108 Holtwood Way, Oconto, passed away at the Odd Fellow Home, Green Bay, on Wednesday, July 28, 1999 at the age of 88.

Ray was born in rural Marinette on June 22, 1911, the seventh of 10 children born to Philip and Charlotte BURKHALTER, both of whom have preceded him in death. In 1938 he married Esther Anna HUNT of Marinette; this union produced three sons. Esther passed away in 1978. In 1979 Ray married Olga LASKOWY KRUEGER. Ray managed the A&P grocery store in Oconto for 42 years. He will long be remembered for his work in the community. He was an active participant in the Oconto Gospel Chapel, United Methodist Church, Oconto Area Chamber of Commerce, Order of Eastern Star, Odd Fellow Lodge, Masonic Lodge, Boy Scouts, Winter Wonderland, American Cancer Society, and many other civic organizations, over the years.

Survivors include his wife Olga, who is currently residing at the Rebekah Haven in Green Bay, and his three sons, Raymond Herbert BURKHALTER of Huntington Beach, California, William Arthur BURKHALTER of San Gabriel, California, and David Philip BURKHALTER of Little Suamico; one granddaughter, Kattia Maria of Sierra Madre, California; three brothers, Herbert BURKHALTER of Florida, Edwin BURKHALTER of Athelstane, and Leonard BURKHALTER, Munising, MI; four sisters, Emma LANDRE of Marinette, Cora TROCHE of Idaho, Edna KEEBLER of Racine, Ruth MARTINDALE of Marinette; two stepdaughters Carol ENDRES and Laurie KRUEGER; two stepsons, Ken KRUEGER and Roger KRUEGER; six stepgrandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Philip Eugene BURKHALTER, and a sister Florence LUDVIGSEN.

Visitation was held at the United Methodist Church in Oconto form 1:00-2:00 p.m. Saturday. Memorial service was held at 2:00 p.m. at the church with Rev. Frederik Schulz officiating. The Gallagher Funeral Home assisted the family.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society of Christian Outreach Work would be appreciated.
