Roslyn ("Ross", "Oddie") Rudolph Vendt, 82, of 317 Madison St, Oconto, died March 11, 1999 after a lengthy illness.
Ross was born in Oconto, March 7,1917 to the late Rudolph and Anna (Murphy) Vendt. He married LuAnne Knuckles September 4, 1948 in Dayton, OH. After graduating from Oconto High School, Ross attended Marquette University and earned a degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1939. He joined the Federal Civil Service prograjm in 1940 and worked for the Army Air Force Base in Dayton, OH. One of his projects resulted in significantly improved electronic defense systems on all US aircraft from the first F-80 jet fighter to the most rescent B-2 bomber. Ross retired in 1977, after 36 years civil service. During this period Ross aqlso served in the Air Force Reserve, after 32 years with the rank of Lt. Colonel.
In 1977, he returned to Oconto with his wife LuAnne in order to be near family and friends. He loved watching the Packers play, reading, bowling, playing cards, Sunday drives, and telling stories of his youth and work. He cared very much for his hometown and was an active volunteer in the community. He was a member of the Oconto Kiwanis Club, American Legion Post #74, a member of the board of directors for Evergreen Cemetery Association and Okato manor Housing Project, and a volunteer driver for the Commission on Aging in Oconto County. Ross was a charter member of the Association of Old Crows, an organization of military intelligence professionals. He was a member of the First American Lutheran Church in Oconto.
Survivors included his wife of 50 years, LuAnne; two daughters, Patricia Ann Vendt, Oconto; one son, David Ross (Mary Hart) Vendt, Lebanon, OH; two grandchildren, Sarah Elizabeth and Mary Aswher Vendt; one sister, Marceil Schumacher, Oconto; one nephew, Damian Schumacher, New Orleans; LA; many friends and relatives.
Visitation was held at the Gallagher Funeral Home, Oconto. Services were at the First American Lutheran Church, Oconto, Rev. Richard De Benedetto officiating. Burial at Evergreen Cemetery, Oconto. Military rites by the Ameriican Legion Post #74, Oconto. Memorials requested to be given to the First American Lutheran Church, Oconto; Kiwanis Club of Oconto, or Association of Old Crows Education Scholarship.
