He was born March 8 1916, in Chicago, the son of the late Percy J. and Gertrude (Blunt) Wood. He was married on October 24, 1938, at Marinette to Ruth E. Fitzpatrick. They had lived in Oconto and West Allis and had been residents of the Town of Pella since 1960, where they owned and operated the Pine Tree Inn, retiring in 1978. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Leopolis. Richard was an avid Cubs baseball fan and enjoyed the Chicago Bears.
Survivors include his wife Ruth; one son, Kenneth Wood of Marshfield; a daughter-in-law, Nancy Wood of Appleton; three grandchildren, Michael, Jason (Ann) and Jeremy (fiancee, Gretchen); one great-grandson, Tyler. He was preceded in death by one brother, Kenneth
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, March 20, at 11 a.m. 4t Swedberg Funeral Home in Gresham with the Rev. Harry Hafeman officiating. Burial will be in Oconto Catholic Cemetery. Friends called on Monday a Swedberg Funeral Home in Gresham, where a parish wake service was held.
