Roland J. Philippi, 80, Suring, died very unexpectedly at home on Wednesday, December 24, 2003.

He was born in the Town of How July 9, 1923 to the late Joseph and Barbara (Weber) Philippi. Roland married Mary Behnke February 13, 1945 at St. John Catholic Church in Gillett. The couple lived and farmed in How Township, and Roland enjoyed to hunt, fish, and trap. He was a Charter member of the Suring Sportsmans Club. Being a lifetime member of St. Michael Catholic Church in Suring, Roland also served on his Church Cemetery Board, and as an usher.

Survivors include his wife Mary; two daughters and their families, Leola (Dan) Anderson of Suring, Laurie Philippi of Kaukauna; four sons and families, Ronald (Diane) Philippi of Green Bay, Roger (Mary) Philippi, Robert Philippi, Roy (Danelle) Philippi all of Suring; his brother, Martin (Mabel) Philippi of New Holstein; two sisters, Annabelle Colson of Crivitz and Mary of Arizona; 16 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by his daughter Evelyn Pockett May 10, 1999, his two brothers Joseph and Marion, and a sister Evelyn.

Visitation was held at St. Michael Catholic Church in Suring on Monday, December 29 from 10 a.m. until funeral services 11 a.m. with Father Paul Schumacher officiating. Burial in St. Michael Cemetery. Gruetzmacher Funeral Home, Suring in charge of arrangements.
