Respected and Beloved

Rev. J. Fairchild was born at Georgia, Vt., August 21, 1806. He was a graduate of the University of Vermont and of Andover Theological Seminary. He went as a home missionary to Liberty, Va., in 1833; he married in 1835.

In 1840 he moved to the state of Indiana, and settled here as pastor of the Presbyterian Church in 1863, which position he held until 1871, when he resigned.

No man in our community was more respected and beloved then he and his death, although not unexpected, are sincerely mourned by all as one of the saddest events in our local history. Marinette Eagle. The funeral services were held Sunday morning in the Presbyterian Church in that city and the building was crowded to its utmost capacity by the relatives, friends and acquaintances of the deceased. The departed had many friends in this city all of whom entertained for him the most profound respect and esteem.
