Mr. Smith owned and operated Smith's Septic Service, Mountain, his motto was "Business Stinks", and was also employed at the Mountain Post Office. He was an active member of the Mountain Ambulance Service since 1971 and was a member of the Mountain Businessmen's Association and Mountain VFW.
He also served as a safety instructor for the Mountain Snowmobile Club and was a past 4-H Club leader. Mr. Smith served a total of 23 years in the armed services, with duty in the Navy during World War II and the Coast Guard until his retirement in 1965.
He is survived by three daughters, Mrs. David (Leslie) Brown, Lena, Mrs.Larry (Lisa) Behrend, Suamico, and Mrs. Larry (Lanita) Mauritz III, Mountain; and two sons Mr.Jack (Michele) Smith, Lakeland Fl., and Mr. Bernie Smith, Mountain. He is also survived by 8 loving grandchildren, Justin, Kayla, Robert, Lanita, Tiphani, Jordan, Bobby & Trevor, who miss him very much.
Grave site military rites will be conducted at the Mountain Cemetery by the Coast Guard. The Bugle and Rifle Squad will be Coast Guard personnel.
