He was a member of the United Methodist Church, Oconto and the Amvets. Russell was a blacksmith for the U.S. Coast Guard Patrol during WWII. Survivors include his wife Catherine; two sons, Albert R. Franks, Appleton and Robert W. Margaret Franks, Oconto; two grandchildren, Russell Lee and Laura Kay Franks, Oconto; two sisters and other relatives.
Private services were held April 26, 2000 at the Gallagher Funeral Home, Oconto with Rev. Frederik Schulz officiating. Burial was at Evergreen Cemetery with military rites by the American Legion and Amvets.
