Phillip J. Coppens, 82, Green Bay, died Sunday, April 22 after a short illness.

Born July 7, 1918 in the Town of Morgan to the late Mr. and Mrs. Charles (Cecelia Boucher) Coppens, he was a member of the Civilian Conservation Corp as a young man. During World War II he served his country by working in the boatyards in Vallejo, Ca. On Aug. 26, 1944 he married the former Marion Hooper in Oconto Falls. He owned Coppens Implement in Oconto Falls for 21 years, and was an active member of Grace Lutheran Church where he served as council president. He was also active in the PTA. Later he worked for the Larson Company as a millwright and foreman, retiring in 1984. He was currently a member of Calvary Lutheran Church in Green Bay.

Survivors include his wife; twin daughters, Mrs. Norb (Jean) Wendricks of Green Bay, Mrs. John (Judy) Hill of Oconto; three granddaughters; three sisters, Margaret Elbe and Mrs. Rueben (Helen) Timm of Gillett, Kathryn Kuhlmann of Sunnyvale, Ca.; one sister-in-law, Lucille Coppens of Oconto Falls.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, William and Norman; infant sister, Kathleen; and two brothers-in-law, Gust Elbe and Robert Kuhlmann.

A Memorial Service will be held Thursday, April 26 at West Mason Malcore Funeral Home, Green Bay. Pastors Earl Vorpagel III and Gail Sowell will officiate with burial at Fort Howard Memorial Park. 4/27/2001
