1942-Christ Depner of Oconto Falls was notified by telegram from the War Department on Wednesday morning that his son, Sergeant Orville Depner, was killed in action in New Guinea on January 5.

Sergeant Depner, 27, was born October 2, 1915 and is the oldest son in the service. He left Oconto in October, 1940 with the National Guards. His brother, Norman, had been in the same company until about four months ago. The Depner's received a Christmas Telegram and had just recently received a letter from Sergeant Orville, which was written the first part of December. The Depner's have another son, Elmer, who is in the Armed Forces. He was stationed in New Jersey but is believed to be on the high seas, as they have had no communication from him for more than a month.

This is the first casualty for Oconto Falls and the Depner's have the heartfelt sympathy of all their friends here.
