OCONTO FALLS- Neil McDermid, 76, 102 John St., died unexpectedly Tuesday afternoon, November 9, 1999 at Community Memorial Hospital. He was born January 15,1923 in the Town of Morgan to Lester and Veronica (Murphy) McDermid. He grew up in Morgan and Sampson and as a young man worked as a machinist in Chicago.

On October 7, 1944 he married Vi Trudeau at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Oconto Falls. Neil was employed at Scott Paper Co. for 10 years. Together the couple owned and operated the Westside Tavern and later Neil & Vi's on Main St. in Oconto Falls for many years. They also served food at their bars and at one time, would serve 400 to 500 plates of fish on a Friday night for 500, with the help of their children. Following their retirement, the couple spent winters in Florida for 10 years. Neil kept busy helping his children with their various projects and maintained his good sense of humor right up until the end of his life. He was a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church and had been a member of the Knights of Columbus.

Survivors are his wife, Vi McDermid, Oconto Falls; his children, Pat Wranosky, Davisburg, Michigan; Mike and Mary McDermid; Robert McDermid, all of Oconto Falls; Geraldine and Richard Kruse, Utica, Michigan; Dan and Deb McDermid, Suring; Ronnie and Craig Kopatz; Susie McDermid, all of Oconto Falls; 25 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren; three sisters, Betty Rasmussen, Green Bay, Ione (Rev) Celsor, Hortonville; Judy (Joe) Delisi, Evergreen Park, Illinois; one sister- in-law, Mrs. Don (Mary) McDermid, Abrams; nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Donald and son-in-law, Dennis Meunier. A Father is someone you always look up to no matter how tall you grow. Mass of Christian Burial was held Saturday, November 13 at his church with the Rev. Harold Berntsen officiating. Burial in the church cemetery. Jones Funeral Service, Oconto Falls, served the family.
