Long Illness Fatal To Bank Organizer And School Official 

Suring, Wis. - Nels Johnson, 93, died at 1:30 Sunday afternoon at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Anne Tamble, where he had resided for the past nine years. He had been in ill health for many years and had been bedridden for the past 15 months.

He was born in Copenhagen, Denmark, on feb. 6, 1860 and came to the United States when he was 20 years old. He settled in the town of How, where he was engaged in lumbering and farming and built the road to the first school in the town of Breed. He served on the School Board in the town of Breed for many years, and was one of the organizers of the Suring State Bank, acting as one of the directors for 12 years. In 1886 he was married to the former Hansena Golterman, who preceded him in death in 1946.

Surviving him are three daughters, Mrs. Anne Tamble and Mrs. Hilda Zingler, both of Shawano; and Mrs. William Fonferick, Clintonville; six sons, Frank and Walter, both of Breed; Frederick, Aniwa; Elmer, Milwaukee; James, Georgetown, Fla; and Archie, La Mesa, Calif. 18 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.

The body is at the Soulek Funeral Home in Suring where the last rites will be conducted at 2 o'clock Thursday afternoon by Rev. Warren Mueller of the Peace Evangelical and Reformed Church of Shawano. Burial will be in the family plot in Breed and the six sons will be pallbearers.

Friends may call at the funeral home after 6 o'clock this evening and until the time of services Thursday afternoon.

Nels Johnson Rites Thursday 

Mr. Nels Johnson, 93, died at 1:30 p.m. Monday, November 30th at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Ann Tamble, where he had been making his home the past 9 years and was bed-ridden the past 16 months.

Mr. Johnson was a native of Denmark, born February 6, 1860 at Copenhagen. He left there at the age of 20 and settled in the town of Howe, Oconto County where he was engaged in farming and logging. He built the road to the first school in Breed and served on the school board for many years. He was an organizer of the Suring Mercantile Store and the Suring State Bank, acting as director for 12 years.

In 1886 he was married to Hansena Golterman, who preceded him in death in February 1946.

In 1935 he retired from the farm and moved to Iron Mountain, where he resided until 1945, then came to Shawano where he lived with his daughter, Mrs. Tamble.

Survivors are three daughters; Mrs. Ann Tamble and Mrs. Hilda Zingler of Shawano; Mrs. Wm. (Hannah) Fonferek, Clintonville; six sons, frank and Walter of Breed; Frederick of Aniwa; Elmer of Milwaukee; James of Georgetown, Florida and Archie of La Mesa, Calif. Also 18 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.

Funeral Rites will be held at Soulek Funeral Home at Suring, thursday, December 3rd at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Warren Mueller of the Peace Evangelical and Reformed Church of Shawano officiating. Six grandsons will act as pallbearers. Burial will be in the family plot at Breed. friends may call at the Soulek Funeral Home after 6:00 p.m. Thursday, until time of services.
