1941

Mr. Norman Bateman who was 30 years of age, had spent his life here, being the youngest son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Henderson Bateman. His mother was the former Mary Marr, daughter of the well-known Cornelius Marr. He was married to Miss Arvilla Spitzer of this community on August 17, 1936, who survives him. A brother Kermit, of Two Rivers and a sister Mrs. Basil Smith of Shawano also mourn his untimely passing.

The requiem mass was sung by the Rev. Francis J. Melchiors at nine am on Wednesday morning at St. Anthony's church. Pallbearers were Paul Peterson, Robert and Norbert Lemorande, Stanley Schmidt, Jos. F. Foral and Ardeal Thompson.

Honorary pallbearers were Aaron Rudolph, Earl LaPorte and the funeral directors of Oconto County. Burial took place in the cemetery at Oconto.

Mr. Bateman studied in Chicago and opened his funeral home here in the spring of 1939. He also served as deputy sheriff of Oconto County for the past several years.

The suddenness of this tragedy (auto crash) has again stunned the entire community. It is hard to realize that "Curly" as he was called by his friends, is gone. He will be greatly missed, not only by his family, but by the entire community. Deepest sympathy is extended to the bereaved in this hour.
