First White Child Born in Brookside Dies Here Monday  
 

Mrs. Joseph Fumelle, 69, died at the Oconto hospital Monday evening, October 24, after an illness of several years with Carcinoma.

Mary Weed was born in Brookside, Wis., December 31, 1858. She was the first white child born in that community. At the age of twelve she came to Oconto with her mother. She was married to Matthew Hanrahan on March 17, 1878 and resided in Sacramento, Calif., for six years. Mr. Hanrahan died and she came back to Oconto. Thirty Six years ago she was married to Joseph Fumelle and has made here home here since.

Mrs. Fumelle is survived by her husband, Joseph Fumelle, one daughter, Mrs. Gregory Fumelle, Jr.

The funeral was held this afternoon at two o'clock from her late home on Smith Avenue. A Christian Science Reader conducted the service and interment was made in the Evergreen Cemetery.

The pallbearers were: Edward Millidge, Donald MacQueen, Francis Kerr, Fred Teschke, Joshph Juneau and Joseph Destiche.

People from outside the city who attended the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. Gregory Fumelle and children of Summitt Lake, Wis., Mrs. Mary Stinson of Green Bay, Mrs. David Wedgwood of Little Suamico and Mr and Mrs. T.P. Rierdon of Hickory.
