Marian Theresa Messenger(1929 - 2016)

Messenger, Marian Theresa

Marian Theresa Messinger, 87, Oconto Falls, died Monday morning, November 7, 2016. She was born July 29, 1929 to Elzer and Emma (Klozotsky) Tessier and attended St. Joseph's Catholic School and Oconto High School graduating with the class of 1947.

As a young adult, she was employed at the Oconto Library (Marian the Librarian) and in the office of Bond Pickle Co. (the Bond Pickle Girl). She was swept off her feet at a dance by the dashing Robert Messinger. They were married on September 20, 1952 and spent most of their life in Oconto Falls, with a few years in Florida.

She and her husband Bob loved to play cards with their special card club friends, and traveled to Hawaii, Florida, Minnesota, New Mexico, South Carolina, and Mexico, and a Norway Cruise Line trip. African violets thrived under her green thumb, and she knitted and crocheted many beautiful sweaters for family and for craft sales. She was always an avid reader and sometimes read several books a week. Many hours were spent listening to musicals, opera and Nelson Eddy. Her grandchildren had a difficult time beating her at Scrabble and Monopoly. Of course, she was a dedicated Packer fan and counted Donald Driver as her favorite player.

Survivors include her three daughters, Diane (Paul) Marquardt, Oconto Falls; and their children Michael (Connie )and his children McKensey, Ethan, Amelia and Marcus, Charleston, South Carolina; Matthew (special friend Kelly McLeod), Oconto Falls; and Robert, Green Bay; Debra Messinger (husband Kim Nocker), St. Paul, MN; and their children Charles, Washington, DC; and John Paul, Minneapolis, MN; Tamia (Darry) Koski and one sister-in-law, Mabel Thompson, all of Oconto Falls; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Robert, in-laws John and Emma Messinger; brothers Charlie and John Tessier, sister in-law Sherrill Tessier; brother-in-law Gunder Thompson; and son-in-law Dennis Van De Hei.

Visitation with the urn present after 9:30am Saturday, November 12, 2016 at Saint Anthony Catholic Church in Oconto Falls until the time of service. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:30am Saturday at the church with the Rev. Fr. Joel Sember officiating. Burial will follow in Volk Family Cemetery, Oconto Falls.

The family expresses a heartfelt thank you to Cindy at Almost Family and the staff of Heartland Hospice.
