FUNERAL SERVICES FRIDAY FOR MAPLE VALLEY PIONEER
Mary Stradal was born in Zychojce, Bohemia, January 13, 1860, and at the age of 10 years, came with her parents to America, where they settled on a farm in Manitowoc county.
On May 10, 1882 she was joined in wedlock to John Roit at Oconto, where they lived for eight years.
To this union eight children were born, of which four proceeded her in death. They were James, Anna, George, and Marie. Her husband died June 6, 1929.
In 1890 the family moved to Maple Valley and settled in the Claywood district, where she and her husband experienced the hardships of of the early pioneer days. They lived there for eleven years. Moving to the town of Spruce in 1901, they resided there four years, returning to Maple Valley in 1905 where she lived the past 37 years.
She is survived by one son John, at home, three daughters, Mrs. Charles Lovitz (Kathryn), Gladstone, Mich.; Mrs. Earl Tillman (Julia), Maple Valley, and Mrs. Frank Sheedlo (Hilda), Escanaba, Mich.; three brothers, Jacob Stradal, Marinette, and Joseph os Maribel, Wis.; three sisters, Mrs. Dora Fisher, Manitowoc; Mrs. Josie McFArlane, Marinette, and Mrs. Anna Havlicek, Francis Creek, Wis. There are also 16 grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at the family home Friday, December 4, at 2 o'clock and at 2:30 at Frostville Congregational church, Rev. Westhause of Clintonville officiating. The remains were laid to rest in a vault in the family lot beside the church.
Mrs. Westhause sang two hymns, "Will the Circle Be Unbroken" and "When They Ring the Golden Bells."
The pallbearers were Hans Slang, John Christensen, John Nelson, Oscar Olson, Martin Arveson and Alfred Nelson. The beautiful floral tributes were in charge of the Messrs. Oscar Olson, John Christensen, Milton Erickson, John Nelson, Alfred Nelson and Sam Winters.
