Mary C. Lyons, 75, of Columbia, Maryland and Lakewood, Wisconsin, died March 23 at Howard County General Hospital of complications from a stroke.
She was the wife of Lt. Col. Eugene T. Lyons, who passed away on February 7, 1999. They were married 54 years.
She was born in Chicago, Illinois, September 28, 1923, daughter of Charles and Mary Navarro. She graduated from Harper High School and married Colonel Lyons during World War II. They traveled extensively, with assignments in Anchorage, Alaska and Munich, Germany. While Col. Lyons was stationed at Walter Reed Army Medial Center, Mrs. Lyons worked as an administrative assistant at the Armed Forces Institute of Pathology, then later at the Department of Agriculture. Mrs. Lyons was active in the Ladies of the Knights of Columbus, Council 2809 and a parishioner at St. Louis Church in Clarksville. She and her husband maintained a second home in Lakewood, after retirement.
Survivors include her daughters, Kathleen M. Galante of Columbia, Maryland, and Charlotte L. Blazei of San Rafael, California, and son Daniel C. Lyons of Frederick, Maryland. She also leaves five grandchildren, Andrea Solan, Michael Galante, Michael Lyons, Bennett Blazoi and Joseph Francis-Lyons. She is also survived by her sister, Jean Stacks of Lawton, Oklahoma, and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation was held at Borgwardt Funeral Home, 4400 Powder Mill Road, Beltsville, Maryland, from 5:00-9:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 25th. A funeral mass was held at St. Louis Chapel, Clarksville, Maryland at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, March 26. Interment was alongside her husband at Arlington National Cemetery at 10:00 a.m., Monday, March 29.
