She was born to the late Martin and Anna (Kubick) Mikeska November 9, 1899, in Nova Lhota, Czechoslovakia. Mary came to the United States of America on a ship called Zieland which landed on Ellis Island by the Statue of Liberty Aug. 12, 1920. She married Steve Yatso Feb. 3, l921 in Pennsylvania and the couple moved to Wisconsin. The couple farmed in the Town of Spruce most of their lives. Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Steve, in April of 1973. Many people enjoyed her rye bread, Kolaches, and homemade noodles. Mary resided at Ann Marie's Elderly Care of Lena since January of 1998. She was a member of the Ladies Altar Society, 3rd order member of St. Francis, and a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church.
Surviving are four children, Steve Yatso, Jr. of Los Angeles, Paul (Audrey) Yatso of Lena, Irene (Roman) Wos of Lena, and George (Shirley) Yatso of Oconto Falls; daughter-in-law, Marie Yatso of Louisville; Kentucky; son-in-law, Cletus Weinfurter of Milwaukee; 27 grandchildren; 50 great-grandchildren, seven great-great-grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren, 27 step-great-grandchildren, and 16 stepgreat-great-grandchildren. Mary was preceded in death by one son, John; one daughter, Mary and one great-granddaughter, Samantha.
Friends called at the Rhodes- Charapata Funeral Home, Lena, Wednesday, July 18, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. with the Parish Vigil Service at 7 p.m. Visitation continued at the funeral home Thursday from 9:00 until 10:30 a.m. The funeral Mass was held at Holy Cross Catholic Church, Spruce, Thursday at 11 a.m. with Father Harold Beerntsen officiating. Interment at Pine Hill Cemetery, Spruce. We would like to thank the Staff at Ann Marie's for their years of wonderful loving care given to our mother. We'll never forget them.
