Mrs. George (Mary) Schlegel, 98, formerly of 201 Fifth Street, Oconto, died Friday evening, August 27, 1999 at Riverside Health and Rehabilitation Center, Oconto. The former Mary Majer was born March 16, 1901 in Czechoslovakia, the daughter of the late Matt and Magdaline Majer. Mary moved to the United States as a young women to become united in marriage to George Schlegel. He preceded her in death in 1962. Mary was employed for Bond pickle in her working years. She was a member of the Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Oconto and Royal Neighbors of America. Mary was the beloved mother of Martha (Bill) madden, Kalamazoo, MI, Bettie (Bob) Mataitis, and Albert Schlegel. She was the beloved grandmother of Sue Chicvara, Tom (Julie) Madden, Kieth (Tae Hui) Madden, Bobbi (Mike) Brown, Rich (Cathy) Mataitis, and Joe Mataitis; and the beloved great-granmother of George Chicvara, Martha (Mike) Montalvo; Becky and Robby Brown; Laura, Ricky and Robert Mataitis. Mary had other brothers and sisters in Czechoslovakia, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Relatives and friends were received at Rhodes-Charapata Funeral Home, 121 Chicago Street, Oconto, Monday, August 30, 1999. Mass of resurrection at Holy Trinity Catholic Church St. Peter Site, Oconto.
