Michael "Mike" Magnin(1947 - 2016)

Magnin, Michael "Mike"

Michael "Mike" Magnin, 69, Oconto Falls, died peacefully Friday afternoon, September 16, 2016 at a Green Bay hospital surrounded by his family after a courageous battle with lung cancer. The youngest of five children, Mike was born as he would say "the fourth month, sixteenth day of '47" in Oconto Falls to Elmer and Ruth "Tommy" (Kilmer) Magnin. Mike grew up on the family farm in the Town of Stiles and attended Oconto Falls Public Schools, graduating from high school with the class of 1965.

Mike was known by everyone as a devoted, dependable and hardworking man. He was an employee for Paper Converting for 50 years as a machinist where he had many friendships. Mike was a craftsman who treasured every moment he shared working and laughing with his nephew Bear and the work crew with Bear Built Construction for many years. He was a lifelong member of the Oconto Falls United Methodist Church and took much pride in caring for the churches yard maintenance for over 35 years which he said ma de him feel closer to God.

Mike enjoyed the simple things in life like the smell of fresh cut hay, family ski trips, cruising with the top down on his trips out West, and watching the squirrels attack his bird feeder. He loved family dinners at Shaffer's, old fashions that were "run through the garden," Grandma Magnin's chocolate chip cookies, golfing, hunting at the Magnin Shack, and the Packers. His mother and father were his life-long heroes who instilled in him the value of hard work and the importance of family. He saw the humor in everything. In particular, he loved laughing at Matt Foley, Lloyd Christmas, Harry Dunne, Elmer Fudd, and the Three Stooges. But the part of his life that brought him the most laughter was watching his grandchildren play together.

Mike was a loving father to five children; Michel (Aaron) Toboyek, Kelly (Rod) Lohrentz, Chad (Amy) Magnin, Lisa (Jake) Anderson, and Jill (Jake) Rosenthal; a proud grandfather of fourteen energetic grandchildren Britney, Owen, Vaughn, Mikayla, Gregory, Malak, Greta, Hudson, Evan, Dane, Kroy, Charlotte, Macie, and Clark; a loving brother to Jim Magnin, Jack (Marilyn) Magnin and sister Carol (John) Kersten as well as sister-in-law Patricia Magnin. Mike was a loving partner to Barb Henkel. He was husband of former wives Linda Junco and Mary Diederich. Mike was the caring uncle of numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a son Matthew Magnin, one brother Tom Magnin, sister-in-law Dolores Magnin and gentle and loving dog George.

Visitation will be held after 11am Friday, September 23, 2016 at the Oconto Falls United Methodist Church, 165 N. Farm Rd. Oconto Falls, WI until the time of service. Funeral services will be held at 5pm Friday at the church with Pastor Dave Henke officiating. A gathering and dinner in his honor will follow at Romy's Holiday Inn at Kelly Lake.

Mike will forever be remembered as a funny, loving, caring, honest, hardworking and dedicated family man.

Casual dress and all of Wisconsin sports themed apparel is encouraged to help celebrate Mike's life.
