Mary McGovern was born in New Brunswick, Canada on February 18, 1852, When fifteen years old, she moved with her parents to Oconto, Wisconsin, where she lived until the time of her marriage to Mike Clifford, the wedding being solemnized on May 18, 1876. She was the mother of 10 children.
