Pioneer Passes Away
M.K. Wellington Died Tuesday
Age 93
51 Years in Pensaukee

M.K. Wellington, one of the oldest of our pioneers, in years as well as in residence in the county, passed away after a brief illness at his home in Pensaukee on the same farm on which he moved 51 years ago and where he lived ever since. He had felt his age for some time and had gradually failed, but it was not until last Saturday that he was confined to his bed where he remained until he died about 4:00 Tuesday afternoon.

Deceased was born in Lexington, Mass., March 24, 1815 and in 1856 came to this county to find a location for a home. He then returned to Massachusetts and the following year came back accompanied by his wife whom as Miss Johanna Cary, he had married in Weltham, Mass. They immediately settled on the farm he had chosen where they both remained until their deaths.

For some years he was the only shoemaker between Oconto and Green Bay and served his neighbors from all directions at his trade. He also served his town during his life in the capacities of supervisor and clerk and was well known and respected throughout this part of the country.

He is survived by one son, Charles Wellington, of California and one daughter, Mrs. Mary Wilson, of Pensaukee. The funeral was held this afternoon at 1:00 from the Brookside M.E. church, Rev. Tullefson officiating with internment in Brookside cemetery
