Matthew J. PHILIPPI

Matthew J. Philippi, 82, rural Suring passed away November 15, 1995 at Community Memorial Hospital, Oconto Falls, where he received excellent care during his last four-day illness. Matt was born February 12, 1913 at Embarrass, Wis. to the late John and Catharine (Holl) Philippi.

Matt graduated from Suring High School in 1930 and married Myrtle (Begolke) on February 8, 1936. He worked on his parent's family farm until 1939 when he was employed by Atlas Conveyor, Clintonville. In 1948 he returned to the farm which he and Myrtle later purchased.

Matt was a member and held several offices in the St. Michael Catholic Church Parish, in Suring. He also was involved and helped build St. Michael Chapel at Chute Pond.

Matt built his retirement home and moved January 1, 1976.

Matt is survived by his sisters; Kathryn Aldrich, Green Bay; Elizabeth Wiskow, Junction City; Cecelia Malich, Greenfield; Charlotte Klatt, Underhill; and one brother; John, Suring; one sister-in-law; Darlene Philippi, Janesville. Further survived by nieces, nephews, and godchildren of whom he was very fond.

Preceded in death by his wife Mrytle in 1967; his parents John in 1964 and Catherine in 1967; and infant brother, Joseph, in 1915; a sister Veronica Kort in 1981; and brother Eugene, who died one week ago, on November 8.

Friends may call at Gruetzmacher Funeral Home, Suring,on Friday from 3 to 9 p.m. Prayer service is on Friday at 8 p.m.Further visitation is Saturday at the Funeral Home at 9 a.m. until Funeral Mass at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Michael Catholic Church, Suring, with Rev. Frank Melchior officiating. Burial is at St. Michael Cemetery on Highway "M".
