Mrs. John Hofbauer, who had been a resident of Oconto Falls for the past fifty eight years, passed away at the local hospital early Wednesday morning. She had observed her 88th birthday on October 6, having been born in Germany in 1865. Mrs. Hofbauer was a patient at the hospital for the past two weeks, but her health had been very frail for the past several years. Her husband died twenty-five years ago.

The remains are at the O'Neill Funeral Home and will lie in state there until Saturday morning when they will be taken to St. Anthony Catholic Church. The Rev. Joseph Labno will officiate at the requiem mass at nine am and interment will take place in the Catholic cemetery.

Survivors are one son and five daughters. They are John Hofbauer of Kenosha; Mary, Mrs. Wm. Lemorande and Hannah, Mrs. Conrad Gerhartz, both of Oconto Falls; Clara, Mrs. J. A. Brown of Cortland, New York; Miss Ann Hofbauer of Kenosha and Miss Agnes Hofbauer of Milwaukee. She is further survived by fourteen grandchildren and twenty-three great grandchildren.

Thus we must chronicle the passing of another of the pioneer settlers of our community. Mrs. Hofbauer had a part in the growth of our city and her generation made truly great contributions for posterity.
