Michael J. Heroux, 81, 421 4th St., Oconto passed away April 3, 2001 at Bay Area Medical Center.

He was born April 13, 1919, in Oconto to late Edward and Mary Hazen Heroux. He married Elaine Rietz on November 18, 1943 at First American Lutheran Church, Oconto and has been a member of that church ever since. The couple celebrated their 57th wedding anniversary last November. He was president of the church council for eight years, president of Badger Paper Mill AFL-CIO Union for eight years and he worked at Badger for 32 years.

He also operated a shoe repair shop in Oconto for seven years. He loved gardening, fishing, golfing and his family. Michael is survived by his wife Elaine; a son, James Charlotte Heroux, Sioux Falls, SD; a daughter, Carole Heroux, Oconto; a sister in-law, Cecil Heroux, Peshtigo; two brothers-in-law Alfred Zimmerman and Wilton Belongia both of Oconto; three grandsons Collin, Drew and Joel all of Sioux Falls, SD; many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; father and mother-in-law, Walter and Leila Rietz; five brothers Luke, Marius, John, Julius and Norbert; five sisters Marion Leonard Crooks, Germaine Joseph Alberts, Pauline Alfred Zimmerman, Phyllis Leonard VanRossum, Lucille Wilton Belongia. Friends called at the Gallagher Funeral Home, Oconto.

Funeral service was 11 a.m. Saturday, April 7, 2001, at the First American Lutheran Church, Oconto with Rev. Richard DeBenedetto and intern pastor Randy Young officiating. Burial at Evergreen Cemetery, Oconto.

The Jones-Modrow-Young Post of the American Legion conducted military rites. A memorial fund has been established for the First American Lutheran Church.
