-Magnus Hertwig, 86, retired businessman died suddenly at his home here Tuesday afternoon following a stroke. Last week he froze his hands while trying to open a fuel barrel to drain some water out. His hands were both blistered and had not healed and it is believed the shock caused him to suffer the stroke.

Mr. Hertwig was born in Green Bay on September 20, 1862, and on August 4, 1890 he was married in Green Bay to Miss Bertha Erdman. Justice of the Peace Killian performed the ceremony. After they were married they moved to a farm in the town of Spruce where they lived until 1906, at which time they came to this city where up to the time he retired in 1939, Mr. Hertwig operated a tavern.

They were the parents of seven children. Besides his wife he is survived by three children, two sons, Leonard of Gillett and Raymond of Oconto Falls; one daughter, Mrs. Ella Bigelow of the town of Stiles. There are also 20 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. A sister Mrs. Christ Marks lives at Little Suamico. A grandson, Cpl. Lee Hertwig is in the Air Corps at Panama City, Fla. There are several nieces and nephews.

The body will remain at the O’Neill Funeral home until Friday afternoon when services well be held at 1:30 with the Rev. Hugo Schmidt of Grace Lutheran church officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery here.
