Melvin Gene Fetzer

Melvin Gene Fetzer, 68, Suring (Kelly Lake, Town of Spruce), died at home December 25, 2000.

He was born March 24, 1932 in Medford, WI to the late Simon and Bertha (Tomlin) Fetzer. Mel's parents died when he was very young and he was raised by his sister, Bertha Schuster. Mel graduated from Medford High School with the class of 1950. He worked as a semi driver and later owned and operated three trucks in the Green Bay area. Melvin married Mae Habermeyer August 28, 1954. Later he married Linda Walingford. Mel was a great mechanic and loved to work on small engines; he operated a small engine repair business at Kelly Lake. Previously he managed Holt Park for five years. Mel enjoyed helping everyone and had numerous people at Kelly Lake that relied on him to plow snow. He had served his country in the National Guard.

Survivors include his daughter, Nancy (Dave) Laufenberg of Madison; his three sons, William Fetzer of Howard, Brian of Suring, Clark of Madison; a sister, Bertha Schuster of Medford; two grandchildren Tina and Kelsey; a special friend, Paul (Lynn) Green of Kohler, WI.

Preceded in death by three brothers Ray, Russel, and Bill.

Friends called at Gruetzmacher Funeral Home in Suring on Friday, December 29 from 1 p.m. until Memorial Service 2 p.m. with Pastor Kevin Kuhn officiating.
