He died last Wednesday
night" He was a native of Ireland where he was born on March 20, 1847. When
but nine years old he came to this country, making the long six weeks' trip
across the Atlantic alone. His father had come to America a few years
previous and settled in Wisconsin and the young lad came to him. At the age
of twelve he began to make his own way in the world. In 1875 he came to
Minnesota and purchased the farm in Sterling where he passed away. He
returned to Wisconsin for a few months to wed Mary McGovern on May 18,
1876. In August of same year, the young couple left for their new home in
Minnesota.
Michael Clifford died at home of his son George and is buried in
Calvary Cemetery in Mapleton, MN.
