LeRoy was born on May 21, 1927, in Rock Falls, IL, to Roy and Hattie (Bacorn) White. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War 11 from June 1944 until May 1946. He was stationed in the Pacific Theater aboard the USS Dour, a minesweeper. LeRoy was a lifetime member and officer of the Amvets organizations.
On November 15, 1946, LeRoy married Jeannine Kunde in Sterling, IL. He owned and operated a supper club in Sterling and vacationed on Maiden Lake, Wisconsin, in the summer. In September of 1960, he and Jeannine purchased Bunny's Resort on Maiden Lake (Maiden Lake Supper Club). They opened in May 1961 and at that time added a restaurant that was well known for its fresh chicken basket dinners. They moved from Sterling, IL, in June of 1966 to operate Maiden Lake Resort year-round until they sold the resort in April of 1968. By this time, LeRoy was also busy with his construction business, White Builders. In 1971, LeRoy and Jeannine purchased Chief's Place on Big Island lake, which they owned and operated until 1984. In 1989, LeRoy retired from the construction business which his son Chuck now owns as White 'Builders, Inc.
Since his retirement, LeRoy has enjoyed his wood projects, extensive traveling, living in Mountain, and spending winters in Zapata, TX. After being confined to his home, he still enjoyed woodcrafting, surfing the net with his Web TV, and continuing to be a loyal patron of the Lakes Country Library. LeRoy was also a member of Saint John Lutheran Church of Townsend and he enjoyed his visits with Pastor Bratz.
LeRoy was a very witty and in- telligent man who will be missed by his family and friends. He is survived by his wife Jeannine; his children, Rae (Mark) Therrien, Chuck (Shelly) White and Ken (Joan) White; five grandchildren; two sisters, Helen (Alan) Young of Sterling, IIL, and Evelyn (Kurt) Gilette of St. Petersburg, FL. Further survived by many loving brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
LeRoy was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Hatti, and by his mother-in-law, Frances Kunde.
Visitation was held at Saint John Lutheran Church in Townsend from 5-8 p.m. on T'ues- day, January 19, 1999. Services were held at 11 a.m. at Saint John Lutheran Church on Wednesday with Pastor Gary Bratz officiating. Burial will take place in the spring at Lakewood Cemetery. Memorials to Lakes Country Library or Saint John's Lutheran Church would be appreciated. Arrangements en- trusted to the care of Suminski Funeral Home, Wabeno, WI.
