Pioneer Resident of Falls Succumbs

Oconto Falls, Wis. - Mrs. William (Lucy) Volk, 87, a pioneer resident of this community, died at the home of her daughter, Ina, at 7 o'clock this morning, following a period of poor health.

Mrs. Volk was born May 5, 1852 at Kewaunee, at the age of three years she came with her parents to Oconto Falls. They settled on a farm where Oconto Falls was little more then a ruddle of shacks.

The deceased was married in 1872 to William Volk. Except for three years spent in Kansas, they lived here up to the present time. Had Mrs. Volk survived until Dec. 22, they would have celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary.

Mr. and Mrs. Volk retired from farming two years ago. Her husband, who survives her, is 92 years of age.

Three sons are among the other survivors, including Edwin of Santa Maria, Calif.; Harry and William Jr. of Oconto Falls; four daughters include Mrs. Gilbert (Bertha) Gowey of Oceanside, Calif.; Mrs. Edward (Mary) Lindstorm of San Pedro, Calif.; Mrs. Ruth Lee of Oconto Falls, and Miss Ina, with whom she and her husband had been making their home for the past years.

The body is at the Bateman funeral home, and will be returned to the residence. Funeral services will be conducted at the residence at 2 o'clock Friday afternoon, with the Rev. David Johnson of the Methodist church officiating. Burial will be in the Volk cemetery.
