LAWRENCE BERTON OBITUARY

Lawrence "Larry" P. Berton, 74, of Cecil passed away on Wednesday, February 8, 2012, in Shawano.

Larry was born on December 17, 1937, to the late George and Lucille (Rusch) Berton in Shawano. On August 3, 1957, he was united in marriage to Marilyn Kohn at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Shawano. Larry owned and operated Berton's Maintenance in the Fox Valley for many years. He served on the Board of Directors for Fox Valley Technical College and was very active with the youth baseball organizations in the Fox Valley. Larry was an avid sportsman, hunter and fisherman. Larry joined Immanuel Lutheran Church White Clay Lake in Cecil, serving on the Board of Trustees for many years. He took care of the church cemetery grounds for quite a few years and helped with the maintenance work of the church with his father-in-law, Walter Kohn. Larry also enjoyed helping with Immanuel's Potatoe Pancake Dinner twice a year, working in the kitchen frying potatoes. Anyone that knew Larry remembers him always having a smile on his face and a story to tell, riding around on his John Deere lawnmower at his home and around the neighborhood in Cecil. He loved spending time with his kids, grandkids and great grandkids, fishing with them and giving them lawnmower rides.

He is survived by his wife, Marilyn; three sons, Mark (Stephany) Berton; Scott Berton; Paul Berton (Wendy Remmel); three daughters, Sandy (Dan) Dorton; Cindy Berton; Michelle Teresinski (Todd Broeske); seven grandchildren, Jennifer (Ray) Cripe; Dr. Benjamin Dorton; Amanda Berton; Brittany, Brandon and Bryce Teresinski; Brooke Broeske; three great grandchildren, Caitlin Dorton; Paige and Remi Cripe; ten brothers and sisters, George (Carol) Berton; Joan (Jim) Oberle; Jeffrey Berton; Diane (Bob) Bohm; Marsha (Woody) Davis; Patty (Tony) Boulanger; Peter Berton; Wayne (Linda) Berton; Tom (Barbara) Berton; Rick Berton; numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Lucille Berton.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 11, 2012, at 11:00 a.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church White Clay Lake, Cecil with Rev. Steven Pockat officiating. Family and friends may call on Saturday at the church from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service.

In lieu of flowers a memorial will be established.

The family would like to extend a special thank you for all the care and compassion provided by Dr. Fox and his staff over the years.

Zastrow Funeral Home in Cecil is assisting the family.

We were blessed to have you as a father and grandfather. You always encouraged us to have a strong future and for us to never stop chasing our dreams. You were there to celebrate our successes and supported us in our challenges. The little things that were insignificant to others were most important to you. We'll find strength in our memories of you splitting wood, riding your John Deere lawnmower, watching you feed the birds, fixing the kids fishing poles, and having a cocktail on the deck with family and friends. Through all of your pain and suffering, you were always in good spirits and remained positive. We are stronger today because you gave the time to always show us your strength. Your positive spirit and infectious smile will always be with us in our hearts!

Love you Dad and Grandpa, you will be missed.
