Lonny Schaal Killed In Logging Accident

MOUNTAIN - A 32-year-old Mountain man. Lonny Lee Schaal was killed Friday in a logging accident. John Fisher, Oconto County coroner, reported that the victim was pinned by a log skidder. Death was attributed to asphyxiation and exposure. The mishap occurred about 1:10 p.m.

According to Fisher, the dead man was logging with a brother, Dale, just south of Maiden Lake in the Town of Riverview. The coroner said the machine apparently broke through about 8 to 10 inches of ice on a small pond.

Dale Schaal told authorities he left the site at approximately 1 p.m. to deliver a load of logs. He returned approximately an hour later and found the body of his brother pinned between the equipment and the ice.
