Widely known figure as County Clerk and Timber Cruiser for Holt Co., Died Here Thursday Night.
Another of the pioneer figures of Oconto county passed on with the death last Thursday night of Lincoln Leigh, Sr., a lifelong resident of Leightown and Oconto who was known throughout this part of the state from his work as a timber cruiser in the old lumbering days.
Mr. Leigh was born December 12th, 1865 in Leightown, where his parents were among the original settlers, and spent the rest of life in Oconto County except for approximately two years during which he worked in the state of Washington. He served as a timber cruiser for the Holt Lumber company for many years, and was County Clerk of Oconto County for eight years.
Services were held Sunday afternoon from the Gallager funeral home by the Rev. J. Edgar Pearson, and burial was made in the Evergreen cemetery. Observances at the cemetery were conducted by the Oconto Odd Fellows Lodge, of which Mr. Leigh was a long time member.
The deceased was married in 1887 to Miss Emma Doney of the town of Stiles, and is survived by his wife and by five sons born to the union. Howard and Clarence of Milwaukee, Raymond of Crandon, Klyde of Madison, and Lincoln, Jr. of Oconto. Also surviving are eleven grandchildren. 3h>
