Mr. Dakins was one of three children born to the late Elmer and Myra (Sterling) Dakins on February 21, 1931 in Plover, Wisconsin. He was a graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point with a Bachelor of Arts degree in History and English, and also concentrated studies in numerous graduate level courses. Lyle served his country in the National Guard for a total of 20 years, and was a member of the 132nd Field Artillery Company of Marinette. On September 4, 1955, Lyle was united in marriage to the former Margaret Fetterly in Marinette.
Early in his working life, Lyle was employed by Kroger Company in Stevens Point, LaCrosse, and Marinette, as a Meat Cutter. From 1968 until 1976, he was employed by the Marinette County Department of Social Services as a Social Worker and Supervisor. In 1976, Lyle became the Director of the Oconto County Department of Social Services, and served in that capacity, until the early 90's when then, the name was changed to the Oconto County Department of Human Services. He then served as Deputy Director, until retirement in 1993.
Lyle was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Oconto and the 20 Year Club of the National Guard. He was a former member of the Oconto Kiwanis Club, and was a former Boy Scout Scoutmaster in LaCrosse and Peshtigo. He greatly enjoyed camping, cooking, reading, and his dogs.
Surviving are his wife Margaret; three children, Lynn Hollander, her husband Bert and son Michael, Oconto; Karen Bickel, her husband, Christopher, and daughters, Amber and Erin, Menominee, MI; Brian Dakins, special friend Cindy Blasing, and sons, Brandon and Dustin, Lena; a sister, Evelyn Lang, Oconto.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Frank.
Family and friends called at First Presbyterian Church, 133 Jackson Street, Oconto from 9 until 10:45 a.m. Monday, July 2. Service of Christian Burial was 11 a.m. Monday at the Church. The Rev. Tom Beck officiating. Interment followed at Evergreen Cemetery, Oconto. The family extends their sincere thanks to Dr. Frank Ralls and Unity Hospice, for the wonderful care offered to Lyle.
