He was born June 17, 1920 in Clintonville to the late Charles and Lena (Boehler) Ziereis. Leo married Owma Kautz on April 29, 1939 in Clintonville.
He retired from Urban Telephone Co. after 40 years of employment as a lineman. In 1978 the couple retired to Anderson Lake where Leo enjoyed fishing, hunting and going for rides. He especially enjoyed the hunting trips up north with the boys, and will always be remembered as a man who never had an enemy.
Leo was a member of the Breed Sportsman's Club, the Suring Lions Club, and a very devoted member of St. Michael's Catholic Church Chapel Chute Pond.
Survivors include his daughter-in-law, Sharon Ziereis of Gillett; one sister-in-law, Sedonia Greunke of Clintonville; two brothers-in-law: Wilbur "Bud" (Romona) Kautz of Ixonia, WI; Oward Kautz of Clintonville; his aunt, Catherine Wochinski of Suring; two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren: Mike and Kathy Ziereis and their children, Brandon, Danielle, and Jacob Ziereis all of Cleveland, WI; Marcie and Terry Schuettpelz and their child, Dana, all of Suring.
He was preceded in death by his son, Charles on June 1, 1993, his wife, Owma on, Feb. 13, 1995, also two brothers: Earl and Milton. A Memorial service was held Wednesday, March 14, 2001 at 11 a.m. at St. Michael's Catholic Church Chapel Chute Pond with Father Paul Schumacher officiating. Gruetzmacher Funeral Home in Suring is in charge of arrangements.
