Kenneth R. Benson, 76, 9500 Golden Estates Lane, Suring, died Saturday morning, August 7, 1999, at the V.A. hospital in Iron Mountain, Michigan following a six month illness with cancer. He was born March 8, 1923 in the Town of Oconto Falls to Dewey and Inez (Zetterland) Benson.

He grew up in Swedetown and as a young man, worked in the CC Camps in northern Wisconsin and went on to serve in the United States Army Air Force during World War 11. He married Susanna La Brosse, daughter of William La Brosse 1 and Susanna (La Budda) La Brosse. Together, Kenneth and Susanna had two children, a son Gene, and a daughter, Jackie. They also opened their home to numberous other children who they helped raise. Susanna preceded Ken in death on October 26, 1977. Mr. Benson lived in Oconto Falls area for most of his life where he was employed at the Scott Paper Co. for over 30 years.

On October 23, 1978, he married Nancy J. Paulson-Allworden in Maple Valley. Ken enjoyed fishing, camping, gardening and spending his winters in Florida. He was a lifelong member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Maple Valley. Survivors are his wife, Nancy Benson, Kelly Lake; one daughter and son-in-law, Jackie and Steve Haney, Indiana; three grandchildren, Kenneth and David Greetan, Patrick Benson; four greatgrandchildren; two sistors, Lillian Wilson and Beatrice Ring, both of Madison; four foster children, Chuck, Donny and Billy Willis, Gaye Willis-Bauer; three stepchildren, Kay (Loyle) Peterson, Idaho; Mark (Nina) Alworden, Alaska; Bili Alworden, Madison; four step-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.

Besides his parents and first wife, he was also preceded in death by his son, Gene, on July 16, 1976, and his grandaughter, Hope Greetan on September 30, 1991. Friends may call at Jones Funeral Service in Oconto Falls from 4:p.m. until 8 p.m. Tuesday and at Trinity Lutheran Church in the Town of Maple Valley after 10 a.m. Wednesday at the church with the Rev. Russell Kampfer officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
