Karolyn "Kelly" M. Garrigan died Tuesday, September 28, 1999 on her 96th birthday at Riverside Rehabilitation Center, Oconto, where she had been a resident since 1998. Kelly was born September 28, 1903 in St. Nazianz, to the late Joseph and Anna (Milhaupt) Geigel. Kelly graduated from Manitowoc County Training School for Teachers in 1921 and taught for 2 years at Millard Fillmore School in Matitowoc. On February 16, 1924, she married Gervasc "Nubs" A. Garrigan in Chicago IL., where they lived until they moved to Muskegon, Mi in 1931. The couple then moved to the five corners area in Lena, where they lived until 1978. After raising 5 children, Kelly returned to teaching in 1946 and until her retirement in 1960, she taught at various schools in Oconto and Marinette counties. In 1978, Kelly and Nubs moved to Oconto where she has lived since that time. Nubs died on May 22, 1979. Survivors include two sisters, Elenor Martin, Missoula, MT; and Sister Loretta Jo Geigel, Milwaukee; two brothers Father Francis Geigel, Wabeno and Roy (Doris) Geigel, Huron, SD; two daughters, Mary Jane Behling, West Allis; Dorthy Birk, Stockbridge; two sons, Michael A. (Margaret) Garrigan, Sussex; and Gerald F. (Darlene) Garrigan, Portage; 20 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Noreen Hendicks of Oconto, who died May 9, 1999. Visitation was held at the Gallagher Funeral Home in Oconto from 4-8 p.m., Friday, October 1, with St. Anne's Rosary at 4:30 p.m.. and prayer services at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 2, at Holy Trinity Parish St. Joseph Site with the Rev.
