Joyce Marie Lightner

Joyce Marie Lightner 79, Oconto. On Thursday July 19, 2012 our Lord and Savior Lord Jesus Christ along with his Blessed Mother welcomed Joyce into Heaven. Joyce died peacefully in her sleep at home. Her loving husband Cory had placed a rosary in her hands before she went to sleep. Joyce was born on November 12, 1932 in Oconto to the late William and Lorena (Loberger) Trepanier. On April 28, 1956 Joyce married Corliss Lightner. They were blessed with six children Gloria (Gene Ryan) Lange of Naperville, IL; Dr. Mel (Kelly) Lightner, Pulaski; Linda (Jim) Gillan, Everett, WA; James Lightner, Saukville; Cory John Lightner, Oconto; and Father Michael Lightner, Milwaukee; seven grandchildren Dana and Joel Lange; Brock and Paige Lightner; Tony, Andre, and Annie Gillan. Three brothers Eugene Trepanier, Oconto; Jack (Nancy) Trepanier, Oconto; Tom Trepanier, Oconto; two sisters Janie (Lanny) Chartier, Loveland, CO; Mary Rose (Michael) Van Draa, Appleton. She was preceded in death by one infant son Joseph; one brother Lee Trepanier; and one sister Janet Trepanier. For many years Joyce along with her husband Cory owned and operated the Snack Shack and Cory’s Country Cooking Restaurant in Oconto. Joyce and Cory maintained and scheduled Masses for the Guadalupe Chapel in Oconto for 24 years. In 1988 Joyce began making pilgrimages to Medugorje, Bosnia where the Blessed Mother began appearing to six children. Her devotion to the Virgin Mary led Joyce to make over 90 trips to Medugorje, leading thousands of pilgrims over the years to a deeper relationship with our Blessed Mother and Jesus Christ. Joyce also made pilgrimages to the Holy Land; Rome, Italy; Fatima, Portugal; Lourdes, France; Betania, Venezuela; Guadalupe, Mexico; and Akita, Japan. In addition, she enjoyed traveling with her husband to his Honor Guard reunions. Joyce brought hope to many people with her hugs, prayers, and smiles. Although she will be deeply missed by family and friends, Joyce was looking forward to the Kingdom of Heaven and is now looking down on all of us and waiting for us to join her.
