Joseph Therien, a resident of Oconto since 1864, died
last Friday, aged 67 years.
Deceased was born in Montreal, Can., in 1839, and came here when 25
years of age and at an early day acted as an interpreter for the Indians.
He is survived by his wife, two sons and three daughters.
The funeral was held from St. Peter's church at nine o'clock Wednesday
morning when solemn high mass was celebrated by Rev Father Pele, assisted
by Revs Vanier of Coleman, Grosenick of Manawa and Jacques of Iron Mountain.
Rev. Piette of Menominee, Looze of Oconto Falls and Therien of Niagara,
son of deceased, were also present. He was laid at rest in the Catholic
cemetery (city of Oconto).

Joseph Therien, father of Mrs William White of this city and Rev Father
Therien, of Niagara, died recently at Oconto at the advanced age of seventy-five
years. Mr. Therien was born in Montreal, Canada, and lived there with his
parents until about 19 years of age. He then went west, where he spent
15 years as interpreter among the Indians, in the Rocky Mountains. He had
been ill for several years.
