James R. Vollmar, 68, Suring formerly of Green Bay, died April 10, 2001 at Woodland Village in Suring.

He was born November 2, 1932 in Green Bay to the late William and Hazel Vollmar. James married Janet VandeLeest July 18, 1953 in Green Bay. Jim was in the U.S. Air Force for four years stationed in Amarillo, Texas. He owned several businesses throughout his life, including Jim's IGA in Howard, and Vollmar's Shady Acres at Chute Pond. He was employed at Evenflo in Suring for 10 years and currently enjoyed driving bus for Lamers Bus in the Suring School System the past 10 years. Jim was a 4th Degree Knight in the Knights of Columbus in Howard, past member of the Howard Suamico Optimists, and Boy Scout Leader in Howard. He was an active member of St. Michael's Catholic Church in Suring for many years.

Survivors include his wife Janet; his seven children and their families: Sherry and Rick Gross, their children Melissa, Jennifer, Adam, and Nick; Joe and Pam Vollmar, their child, Darren; Diane and Dennis Shaw, their children Andy wife Terri and Ben; Jody and Ruth Vollmar, their children Jennifer, Jessica and Christopher; Jim and Chris Vollmar, Jr., their children Jeremy and Joshua; Amy Vollmar, her son, William; Kris and Chad Knaus, their children Bradley and Draven; two great-granddaughters Kayla and Kristen; four sisters Betty Ullmer, Joyce and Bob Calewarts, Bonnie and Ralph Barlament; Mary and Bill Ricker; mother-in-law, Esther VandeLeest; one sister-in-law, Ruth Vollmar.

Preceded in death by his parents; a brother, William, Jr.; one niece; two nephews; father-in-law, Clarence VandeLeest; two brothers-in-law Lee Hallada and Ron Ullmer.

Visitation was held at Gruetzmacher Funeral Home in Suring. A prayer vigil was held. Funeral services were conducted 11 a.m. Monday, April 16, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Howard with Father William Switchtenberg officiating. Entombment at Allouez Catholic Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established in memory of Jim.
