She was born April 1, 1935; daughter of the late Harold and Marion (Brickel) Pophal. Joyce was an engineering secretary for Scott Paper Company in Oconto Falls until retiring, then took a part time secretary job for Dave Anderson Accounting in Abrams. She enjoyed cross country skiing, hunting for waterfalls, crossword and jigsaw puzzles, reading and going up north.
Survivors include one son, Doug "Skip" (Pam) Zilz, Green Bay; one stepson, Dr. Nate (Hien) Zilz, Rochester, MN; two grandchildren, Britney and Dalton; one sister, Dawn Gering, Wausau.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and one brother, Harold "Dale" Pophal.
The Funeral Mass was celebrated 11 a.m. Tuesday, November 14, 2000, at Church of the Resurrection of Our Lord Jesus Christ, Wausau. The Rev. Stephen Gross presided. Burial in Restlawn Memorial Park, Wausau. Friends called on Tuesday from 1O a.m. until the time of the services at the church. Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, 1302 6th St., Wausau was in charge of arrangements.
