Joseph Carriveau(1949 - 2016)

Carriveau, Joseph

Joseph M. Carriveau, age 67, passed away on March 15, 2016, after a brief illness at Mercy Medical Hospital in Oshkosh. He was born in Oconto Falls, Wisconsin, on March 1, 1949, to Raymond and Jeanette (Casper) Carriveau. Joe went to Oconto Falls High School and was a member of Key Club, Student Council, Mixed Chorus, and track. He earned his Bachelor's degree in Letters and Science at The University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh in 1972. He had further education in radio-television broadcasting at Brown Institute in Minnesota where he earned his first and second-class Engineering licenses for radio and television.

In his younger years, he was active in Boy Scouts of America, 4-H, Berlin Jaycees, and Berlin Kiwanis Club. He was on the state board of directors for the Wisconsin Amputee Golf Association, in addition to many other organizations.

In 1975, he lost his leg in a motorcycle accident, but God blessed him with the gift to play different musical instruments. Joe enjoyed playing polka dances, supper clubs, and county fairs. He shared his musical talents, playing for free in nursing homes, area schools, and churches. He had a weekly radio polka show for twenty years.

He is survived by his wife, Mira; three sons: James (Julie) of Berlin, Thomas (Ashley) of California, and Robert (Janet) of Ripon; four grandchildren: Addie, Oliver, Lincoln, and Andrew; a sister, Kathy Allen of Oconto Falls; an aunt, Marcella Meyer, and numerous cousins. He was preceded in death by his son, Danny; and his parents.

A memorial service will be held at St. Raphael the Archangel Catholic Church, Oshkosh, on Thursday, March 24, 2016, at 11:00 a.m., with Father Doug LeCaptain officiating. Friends may be received at the church from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers a memorial is being established in Joe's name.

Joe will always be remembered for his quick wit and the ability to play well with others.

Thank you to the PACU2 and ICU staff at Mercy Hospital for the care and compassion shown to Joe during his hospital stay.
