Jane V. Leurquin Riebe

Jane V. Riebe, 77, of Merrill, formerly of Lakewood, Wisconsin, died at the Pinecrest Nursing Home in Merrill on Monday, September 11, 2000.

Jane was born in Green Bay on February 27, 1923, the daughter of William and Barbara (Diring) Leurquin. During World War II, she moved to Milwaukee, and on January 30, 1948, married Walter Riebe. They eventually settled in East Troy. At the age of 50, Jane went back to school to complete her GED, since she had to leave school after the 8th grade to help her family and never received her high school diploma. She completed her GED schooling and graduated with high honors. After graduation, she opened a ceramics shop where she sold the artwork that she was so proud of. In 1978, she and Walter moved to Lakewood in order to be closer to her sister, Ruthie, who needed the family support at the time. Not to slow down after moving to Lakewood, she became an active member of Saint John Lutheran Church in Lakewood, also enjoying her time helping in the Ladies Aid of the church. She was also a very artistic soul and enjoyed her time crafting, crocheting, and expressing herself through the art she produced with her hands. She also enjoyed traveling, and especially loved the time she spent with her family and friends.

Jane is survived by four daughters, Wendeline (David) Tucker of Carter, Wi; Barbara.(Eli) Fuller of Danbury,WI; Pamela (Francis) Fahnstrom of Lakewood, WI; Jane (Ted) Tritten of Merrill, WI; Three sons, Fred (Brenda) Klug of Nashville, IL;, William (Susan) Riebe of Milwaukee, WI; Walter (Bonnie) Riebe of Mountain, WI; one sister Carol (Ted) Bugalski of Waukesha, WI; two brothers, William (Ruth) Leurquin of Puyallup, WA; Lloyd (Lanore) Leurquin of Milwaukee, WI.: Jane is further survived by 11 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter; her parents; two brothers, Alfred and Edward; and two sisters, Geneva and Ruth.

Friends called upon the family from 4 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday September 13, 2000, at the Saint John Lutheran Church in Townsend. Visitation continued Thursday September 14 from 10 a.m. until time of services 11 a.m. at the church. Pastor Gary Bratz led the services. Interment followed at the Lakewood Cemetery. Suminski Funeral Home of Wabeno assisted the family.
