FINAL RITES FOR PIONEER CARRIER 
HELD MONDAY. 

John L. LaShay, 87, pioneer settler who some 60 years ago carried mail by stage and horseback between Green Bay and Shawano, died Thursday night in the town of Morgan at the home of a granddaughter, Mrs. Alvin Van Hoff.

Mr. LaShay was born Feb. 9, 1858 at Amsterdam, N. Y., and came to Wisconsin at an early age. He was married 65 years ago to the former Cora Krake at Angelica. She died in 1916. After some years on the mail route, Mr. LaShay took up a homestead in the town of Morgan, clearing it of timber and farming the land for many years.

Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Ella Hodgins of Oconto Falls and Mrs. Clarence Trudell, Milwaukee, three sons, Charles of Green Bay, Owen of Fond du Lac and William, town of Morgan; 15 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

The body was at the Flatley Funeral home, Oconto Falls, and rites were conducted there at 1:30 Monday afternoon by the Rev. Axel Blom of the Lutheran church of Green Valley, and burial took place in the Norwegian Lutheran cemetery.

Pallbearers were Adolph and Peter Peterson, John Van Hoff, William Heaney, Harry Hanson and Abraham Trudell.
