Joseph Konopka, 78, a prominent resident of the town of Chase, died Monday afternoon at a Green Bay hospital after a stroke. The deceased was born in Poland in 1859 and came to the United States in 1886, settling in Saginaw, Mich. In 1886 he was married to Mary Ryba and in 1896 settled on his farm in the town of Chase.

Mr. and Mrs. Konopka celebrated their golden wedding anniversary Aug. 1, at Krakow. They were pioneer members of this parish and during the period of their residence having many unusual experiences. One of the foremost was the attending of religious services in the open in the summer and in the winter in the home. The method of travel used by the Konopkas was an ox cart.

Funeral services were held this morning at St. Casimer's church, Krakow, with the Rev. Eugene Konopka, a son of the deceased officiating. He was assisted by the Rev. V. Wysocki, deacon, another son, Father Urban, as sub-deacon. Internment was in the Krakow cemetery. Survivors are his wife, six sons, John, Sobieski, Stanley, Chase, Michael, Armstrong Creed, Francis, Lansing, Mich, the Rev. Eugene, Green Bay, and Father Urban, Green Bay; three daughters, Sisters Apollonia and Nodbruga of St. Joseph's covenant, Stevens Point and Mrs. Anthony Spychalski, Krakow.
