John DePouw, 77 Rites Wednesday

John J. DePouw, 77, life long resident of the community, died at 4:30 p.m. Sunday at his home at 221 Madison st. He had been in apparent good health and death was unexpected.

Mr. DePouw was born in Oconto, May 4, 1875, the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Fred DePouw. He was a well known farmer in the town of Oconto, R1, where he farmed until about 10 years ago when he retired and moved to Oconto. He was married to Ida VanHefty, April 11, 1900. She preceded him in death in 1919. September 4, 1921, he was married to Leona Mortier.

The body was taken to the Sheffield Funeral home where it remained until Wednesday morning when funeral services were conducted at St. Joseph's Catholic Church at 9:30. Burial was in the Catholic cemetery.

The parish rosary was said Tuesday evening by the parish and by the Knights of Columbus.

Survivors are two daughters Mrs. Henry DeWindt, town of Oconto, and Mrs. Louis Hoffman, West Bend; six step-daughters, Mrs. Mose LeMay, Mrs. H J. Albert and Mrs. Paul Bornhuetter all of Kenosha; Mrs. Estelle Carlson of Milwaukee, Mrs. George Don Levy, town of Oconto and Miss. Cecile Mortier, Oconto; four sons, Albert and Alphonse DePouw of Oconto, Frank of Muskegon and Louis, Town of Oconto; two sisters, Mrs. Zeal VanHefty Oconto, R2 and Mrs. Emil Lindeman, Manitowoc. There are also 21 grandchildren, 22 step-grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Edward Sherman, George LeBreck, Sr., Howard Huisman, George Perdzock, Henry Delcore and Oscar Belongia.
