CALDWELL RITES HELD AT OCONTO
Leading Citizen Passes Away With Stroke; Well Known Here

Oconto -- Funeral services for John J. Caldwell, who died at his home here Sunday noon, were held at 2 o'clock Monday at the Presbyterian church. The Rev. L. C. Smith, Kimberly, officiated in the absence of the Rev. Mr. Lloyd.

Odd Fellow services were conducted, with Ed Cisar as Chaplain and Henry Toole as noble grand. Burial was in Evergreen cemetery.

Mr. Caldwell was born in Oconto Mary 13, 1979, and lived his entire life here. On August 17,1904, he was married to Hattie E. Leigh at the home of his wife's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Leigh, Leightown. He was with the American Railway Express company for 12, years and following that was in the insurance and real estate business here for a number of years, a business which he later sold to Julius Heisinger. After selling out his real estate and insurance business, he went into the advertising business, in which he remained until his first illness five and a half years ago.

He was a member of the I. O. O. F. M. W. A. AND E. R. A. and was an elder and trustee in the First Presbyterian church here. He gave generously of his time to work for the Wisconsin State fair, Oconto County fair and later the Oconto Corn and Potato show. For a number of years he served as a member of the county boad of supervisors.

He was the son of John and Nancy Caldwell, early Oconto settlers.

He is survived by his wife, two sons, Leigh, of Oconto, and Ralph, of Clintonville; two daughters, Mrs. Oliver McDowell, (nee Geraldine Caldwell) and Doris, both of Oconto; two Oconto; two grandchildren and four sisters, Mrs. Mary Payne, Menominee, Mich.; Mrs. Ricard Evans, Oconto Falls; Mrs. Stella Chamberlain, Minneapolis, Minn,. and Mrs. Ella Deacon, Detroit, Mich.
