John "Jack" Francis Hyland, 79, passed away Wednesday, May 22, 2002, at home surrounded by family. Jack was born Nov. 23, 1922, in Spruce, Wis., son of the late Joseph and Caroline (Marik) Hyland. He graduated from Kingsford High School in 1942.

He served in the U.S. Army from 1944 to 1946. Jack was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 03674. He retired from Scott Paper in 1985, where he was employed for 31 years. He was vice president of the Pulp & Paper Workers Union Local 95 in Oconto Falls for many years and was on the committee that founded Scott Credit Union, later known as N.E.W. Credit Union.

On May 23, 1964, he married Jean Young in Green Bay, Wis. Jack was an avid gardener and woodworker and enjoyed spending time up north.

He is survived by his wife, Jean; two daughters, Gina Hyland of Green Bay and Cerrie (Kurt) Bandt of Baraboo, Wis.; five grandchildren, Torie, Ryan and Eric Montie of Baraboo, Adam Hyland of Oconto Falls and Amanda Hyland of Green Bay; three sisters, Dorothy (Phil) Smith of Kingsford, Joan (Clark) Linn of Kingsford and Patricia (Robert) Lindholm of Iron Mountain; three brothers, Robert (Grace) Hyland of Oconto Falls, Joseph (Arlene) Hyland of Oconto Falls and William (Mary) Hyland of Kingsford; four sisters-in-law, Ruth Naniot, Joyce (Roger) Davis, and Shirley (Elmer) Garbrecht, all of Oconto Falls and Jane Young of Minnesota; a brother-in-law, Ronald Young of Alabama, and many nieces, nephews and special friends.

He was also preceded in death by his brother, James; four nephews; three brothers-in-law, Shyl “Chuck” Naniot, Donald Young and Kenneth Young, and three sisters-in-law, Betty Jane Young, Mary Young and Betty Young.

Respecting Jack’s wishes, there will be no service. The Rhodes-Charapata Funeral Home of Oconto is assisting the family. The family would like to extend special thanks to Unity Hospice for their wonderful care, Lorraine, Todd, Diana, and a special thank you to Barb.
