 .Resident of Oconto County For 50 Years
Dies at age of 87



John H. Shufelt, 87, died at his home on Pecor street Monday evening at 11:05 pm, from causes incident to old age. Five years ago he experienced a paralytic stroke. He had been a resident of this city and county for a period of fifty-six years. He was born in Dix Town, Steuben County, New York on May 8, 1838. He married Josephine Emick in Pennsylvania on July 4, 1864 and five years later came to this city where he was employed as a millwright with the old form of Holt and Balcom. In 1882 he moved to a farm in the town of Little River. Fourteen years ago he retired and returned to this city.

He is survived by three children, Della B. Shufelt, Little River, Mrs. W.D. Payne and Mrs. Louis Olson, Oconto; also by nine grandchildren and twenty great grandchildren.

The funeral will be held from his home today at 2:30 pm with Rev. R.A. Garrison officiating. The pallbearers will be six grandsons, Dean and Asa Payne, Lyle and Leslie Shufelt, Frank McGonagle and John Reed.

Out of town people at the funeral were Frank Shufelt of Minneapolis, and Asa Payne of Kenosha. Interment was made in Evergreen Cemetery.
