JAS. HERALD PASSES AWAY
Died at Home Last Sunday at age of Seventy

HAS RESIDED HERE 47 YEARS

Funeral Held Wednesday Morning
Interment in Catholic Cemetery

James Herald, Sr., an old and respected citizen of Oconto, passed away at his home here last Sunday at the age of sixty-nine years, death being due to a complication of diseases.

Mr. Herald was born in Reed, Belleville, Ontario, Can., August 22, 1848. He came to the United States in the year 1870 and has resided in Oconto ever since. On July 1, 1877, he was married to Abigail Donovan. In the early days he with his brother drove the Oconto River under contract for the several lumber companies.

He is survived by his wife, four sons, Edward and Clarence of Oconto and Horace and Howard of Waupace, eight grandchildren and two sisters, Mrs. Thomas McAuliffe of Syracuse, New York and Miss Margaret Herald of Oswego, NY. He was a brother to John and Hugh Herald both lately deceased.

The funeral was held Wednesday Morning from St. Joseph's Church, with Father Becker, Father Looze and Father Colby of Gillett officiating. Interment was made in the Catholic Cemetery.

Peter and Frank Donlevy, Thomas Holyoke, John McGinnis, Wm. Mathewson, Wm. Tripp, Gus Cecil and Richard Cullen acted as pallbearers. He was a member of the Oconto Camp of the Modern Woodsmen of America.

Relatives from out of town who attended the funeral are, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Herald and Michael Herald of Duluth, Minn., Miss Frances Herald and Dr. G. Melchoir of Algoma, Mrs. John Nick and Mrs. Ludwig Rieck, Mr. and Mrs. J.F. O'Connor and daughter Cecile and Margaret, of Green Bay, Miss May Herald of Waupaca and Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Herald and daughter Margaret of Oshkosh.
